Each word formed during the play will be scored according to the face value on the letter tile. The game opposite (which I played on Facebook) began well for me in that I scored 88 on my first turn with CHOMPER. My replacement letters were BEDSORE. On my next turn I placed bedsore on a 'double' double to score 107. The lead letter B covers a double word score and the last letter E covers another double word square so the word score is quadrupled. This, in addition to the extra 50 BINGO points (for using all 7 letters) and the score for adding the S to chomper scored a massive 107.

If you play a lot of Scrabble, as I do, you will find that games like this occur more frequently that you might imagine. To score in the 150+ range for a single word you need to get 'treble' treble words if possible. You also need to be very lucky. I have only managed a 150+ score for a single word on two occasions, but as the old saying goes 'the more you play the luckier you get'.

Play Wordgames With Friends

This is another Facebook application which has many followers. It plays out just like Scrabble and the playing area is the same size. Things you might watch out for are the 'Bingo' words which are only worth 35 points instead of 50. Another big difference is that the triple word squares are shifted and are no longer in the corner of the board. In my opinion, it is not as good as Scrabble but it is fun to play too. I do miss the dictionary facility though as game play can be slow for WWF.

You can see straight away the similarities of the two games. i suggest that you play both of them as the tactics vary with each one.

Try to place words in positions that do not lend themselves to assisting the opponent. For example, by finishing a non-pluralized word only one square from a ‘triple’ word score. Te opponent will surely have an ‘s’ or a ‘blank’ and can score triple points for your hard work. In addition the opponent will score triple points for their new pluralized word which tags onto your initial word. When nearing the end of the game be aware of the high scoring tiles that have not yet appeared in play. I have exchanged 6 tiles consisting of 4 i’s and 2 o’s and got back instead the q,u,a,z,s and a blank which provided great scoring potential far surpassing the missed turn forced by the exchange.

Poor tile rack tactic

Occasionally, you will get a very poor rack of letters perhaps consisting of all vowels. Many players exchange 4 or 5 letters at this point. You miss your turn and do not score. It is better tactically to play words like AA or OU instead. Good placement scores you 8 points plus you get your two new letters and because you had so many vowels to begin with the odds are good that you will get two usable consonants.
