Love Art Everywhere

Beauty in art

If you love art in all its forms you are lucky indeed. I like most art but have difficulty with some styles. My preference is for modern art and abstract themes and I like impromptu art seen sometimes as murals or street scenes. To mix art and love is to mix two abstracts together because neither word can be defined properly to everybody’s taste. When both are together the term ‘love art’ is not easily defined. Love and enjoy art might be more appropriate.

Famous love art

A famous painting circa 1928 by René Magrete is called ‘The Lovers’ but it does nothing to help describe love because the lovers faces are unseen and yet they are lovers. But it did a lot to describe art and the love of art. René Magritte was a Belgian artist of the surreal movement and this painting is an oil on canvas measuring about 30 inches by 20 inches.

Iconic Love Art

If you get the chance then pay a visit to The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York where you will find love art in its truest form. The piece of art I love is by the American Robert Indiana and is associated with the ‘Pop Art Movement’ cultural scene. It is simply called LOVE. The picture is easy on the eye and contains the letters ‘L’, ‘O’, ‘V’ and ‘E’ in bright red color. What is unusual about the work is that it is spelt out on two lines with the L and O above the V and E in a square format. The background is green and blue. The four letters take up the whole framewith one letter per quadrant and quirkily the ‘O’ is slanted slightly.

Love art print

A print of the work can be obtained by mail order or a smaller image can be got from a philately club or retailer. It was originally a Christmas card but has been reproduced in many forms since including giclée and 3 dimensional representations (sometimes using different colors)

Indiana's work often consists of bold, simple, iconic images and apart from his best known example ‘LOVE’ he has worked with numbers and other 3 or 4 letter words.Like all great works of art this image has been featured on a postage stamp by USPS in the 1970s. Indiana’s love art and other work has been exhibited throughout the world.

Love Graffiti

Loving your wall Graffiti

Graffiti is art that is displayed, sprayed or painted on public property. The painting tools required are usually spray cans. Graffiti has existed since ancient times and has been, and still is, controversial. Graffiti artists constantly have the threat of being prosecuted for defacing buildings and public transport (train, bus and auto art) where paint can be difficult to remove. Many choose to remain anonymous. Two of the more famous graffiti artists are known as Banksy (English) and Pixnit (USA) and they are commercial and have samples of their works issued in book form. Is graffiti just pure vandalism or perhaps it is new art? Love it or hate it, it is here to stay.

Love art women

Paintings of the female form

Art, love, women (not necessarily in this order) have inspired male artists throughout the centuries. Paintings of women have been the subject of artists like Cezanne, Degas and Renoir. Most famously combining the love at women theme is the Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo da Vinci. Incredibly this painting was stolen from the Louvre in Paris, possibly by a lover of art or women or both. It took 2 years to retrieve the painting and restore it to its rightful place where it is fully protected in its own room. Security ran to several million dollars to protect Mona who now resides behind bullet proof glass.

Thank you for your comments on this hub love art. I do love arts of every type and I continue to experiment with many different mediums. I have difficulty understanding abstract stuff and offbeat installations sometimes but I like art in all its forms just the same.
