Ginger Tea Benefits

Refreshing ginger
Ginger drink
Ginger is good for your digestion and one way to get the benefits of ginger is to drink a beverage of ginger tea. In wintertime, ginger is an excellent remedy for keeping colds and flu at bay. Ginger grows as a root herb which is very chewy but one way to ingest it is as a tea drink. Mix ginger with lemon, lime and honey to make a very good, refreshing drink. Stress related illnesses can be eased by consuming ginger tea but for the best results you need to be consuming at least one cup of tea per day.
Ginger simply
Ginger is a natural herbal spice which has been used by herbalists for generations. It is often used in food to aid digestion due to its medicinal properties. A simple remedy of sucking on a ginger lozenge will ease a sore throat.

Types of ginger
Two ginger types
There are two types of ginger but both types are from the same plant. Root ginger is used mainly for spicy ginger teas as it is a stronger flavor but stem ginger is found in several meat dishes as well as many other foodstuffs (most common is ginger cake). Ginger additives are included too in many spice mixes.
Ginger ale drinks
Ginger and apple
Ginger ale is a drink made from ginger and has been long associated with a healthy gut and other studies indicate that ginger tea will assist with reducing the severity of migraines for sufferers. Ginger clears your head and refreshes you when you are fatigued. Fresh ginger drinks are better than ale but a very refreshing drink on a summer’s day is one made from ginger ale and apple juice in a 50/50 mix.

Remedy for nausea
Best ginger teas: Fresh and powdered ginger can be used for making ginger tea. Ginger teas made from the fresh herb are better and have more potency as is the case with all fresh herbs. The powdered ginger stores for longer and can be kept until required. When you are unable to eat then sipping ginger tea will help as the ginger is fibrous and the extra fiber provided by ginger will help your stomach settle. A cup of ginger tea will greatly settle nerves prior to an important job interview or other imposing occasion.

Preparing ginger
Ginger tisanes v ginger tea bags
One form is to use ginger powder and another is in a tea bag but if possible do try to get raw ginger and prepare it yourself. Freshly grated ginger can be eaten raw but has a strong flavor and you might prefer to make a ginger tisane instead with added lemons and honey as your taste demands. When feeling unwell and unable to eat you will find good relief from sipping hot ginger tea throughout the day. In the absence of fresh ginger then you may have to fall back on ginger tea in bags which may not be as potent but will still be of benefit.
Peeling ginger
Oftentimes people new to using and preparing ginger will try to peel it with a knife. The trick is to peel this fibrous root using just a teaspoon as you will find the blunt edge of the spoon works better than a sharp knife. Ginger can be added to soups and stocks or made as a ginger candy treat when glazed with sugar and diced into small cubes. By far the best method of consuming ginger is in a ginger tea drink and even one cup per day will greatly invigorate you.

Comments on Ginger
Thank you for your comments and endorsement of ginger, which is such a wonderful dietary aid, as you have mentioned. Garlic, too, is a big favorite of mine, so there may be a forthcoming hub on the benefits of garlic too.
Ginger does have outstanding benefits. Great information - thank you.
Thank you for your comments regarding ginger drinks. There is little doubt that ginger adds spice to our lives and wellbeing.
I've discovered fresh ginger when I started to cook proper chinese recipes, I like to grate it in a mug of hot water and add lemon. It helps me greatly for my breathing problems. Great hub about ginger and all its benefits ! :)
Thank you for your comments on ginger consumption as well as the mini ginger recipe with lemon. I am a firm believer in the benefits of ginger in food or drinks. I prefer using natural foodstuffs when I cook.
I love ginger root tea. My Mom used to give it to us for cramps; but it is so delicious and refreshing I drink it any time! Great information on the benefits of ginger.
Thank you for your comments and for the ginger root tea remedy for cramps. The ginger essential oil is the ingredient that reduces the pain. Ginger drinks can be consumed hot or cold as preferred. A hot ginger tea is known as Salabat, originating in the Philippines. Make hot Salabat ginger tea by crushing the ginger root and boiling it in water.
Ginger ale is my favorite way to get my intake of ginger.
Thanks for the informative hub.
Thank you for your comments. A ginger drink benefits us all whether it is tea, herbal of good old fashioned ginger ale which I also love.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your comments. I wanted to outline benefits of ginger in all its guises and not just in tea as ginger is beautiful.
It seems like ginger is very good for you all in all, i will have to include ginger in food from now on. Good article.
Thank you for your ginger tea hub comments. Ginger in your diet will help you to feel good.
The ginger plant is so beautiful. I had though that it would be like an ugli fruit and just assumed it would awful, but its not. The scent of ginger flowers is so wonderful too. I am planning to grow some now that fall is approaching as I think it will overwinter very well and then be at its best in springtime. Beautiful hub Mark.
Thank you for your comments Becs, on this much appreciated. The plant is indeed beautiful and I wish you success with growing it and enjoying the benefits of salabat tea thereafter. One of the benefits of raw ginger mixed with green tea is that it enhances the flavor of the tea and the combined effect of these two natural products mixed together is beneficial to your well being.

Excellent hub. I had a severe chest infection recently and I found ginger and lemon tea (Twinings) really helped. This is a household in which European and Pakistani/Indian food is regularly cooked and eaten. As you know, the Subcontinent relies heavily on ginger and garlic in its preparation and we feel healthier for it.
